Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What is your rate and how does payment work?
Starting June 1, 2023, the hourly rate will be $18.00/hour.  If you have a support coordinator through family support, we will sign a subcontract and a specific amount will be assigned to your respite care fund.  I will send a bill directly to your coordinator at the end of each month your child attends.  If you have funding through the state, there is a form we both sign monthly and I turn it in to the state.
2.  What is respite funding and how do I get that?
Respite funding is for those who qualify on an individual education plan through their school district.  If you have a documented disability and the appropriate evaluations, you would be eligible for respite funding.   Follow the link to be directed to the SD Department of Human Services page.  There, you will find the application.  Once you get accepted, you will receive some forms.  I'd be happy to guide you through those forms once you receive them. Respite money through the state is typically capped at $600.00 June 1st-May 30th.  The max to receive in one year is $1,000.  I highly encourage you to also call to get your child on the waiting list for Family Support 360.  Family Support 360 (FS 360) helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families get the services they need to live in their own home and community as independently as possible.     Once you are accepted into family support, you will be assigned a coordinator and will develop a yearly plan that includes more flexibility with your respite dollars.  Click the family support 360 button to learn more and find contact information to learn more about this amazing program.
3.  Can siblings attend?
Siblings are allowed to attend but we want to limit it to one sibling. We believe siblings sometimes need a break too from their loved one with unique needs.   We want to make sure we have spots available for those who need specifically tailored care.   Sibling rate is $10.00/hour.  You can submit payment at pick up time either through cash, Venmo, or check.
4.   How will I know what dates you are offering care nights?
Provide your email and I will get you on our monthly email that will list the dates we are offering.  You simply respond back to my email with the date(s) you prefer.  I will email you back within ONE week confirming your spot(s).  I will also send a reminder email closer to the date.
5.  How many children do you allow each night?
This largely depends on the children that sign up and the needs they present.  The beautiful thing about care nights is that the same families keep returning.   We know the children very well and can gauge how many to accept on one night.
